SUPERVISED PLAY GROUPSPrior to joining a supervised play group, you can expect a 1.5 hour free assessment with a BRIDGE FORUM teacher with whom you can assess what group will best suit your level of play and system you currently play or want to learn. We currently offer groups for those wanting to enhance their use of SAYC, Two-Over-One and Acol. As well, all groups focus on bidding, declarer and defensive play plus useful conventions as no system can be taught in a vacuum. There are essentially two different formats for groups. All groups meet two hours weekly but one has no more than 4-6 people plus your teacher while the other consists of eight-ten players who work with two teachers. The latter caters to the same information but the play is a team of four with one teacher commenting at each table. In either type of group you receive lesson notes prior to each session, addressing topics that reflect the level and system of the group. While you are encouraged to send any and all questions between sessions, you will get on the spot feedback at the time of play and hands saved by your teacher(s). These hands are sent out to all participants and you are asked to review and choose those hands where you had the most difficulty so that you can write up how you would bid, play or defend such hands differently. Thus an email dialogue starts between you and your teacher as you receive further feedback. As well prior to the next session you receive notes reflecting both issues that arose from the last session and a new topic or a continuation of a previously introduced topic such as signals and discards. So be prepared for enjoyable homework. BRIDGE FORUM teachers charge different rates depending on their level of expertise and importantly, their experience as a teacher. Therefore, while we try to accommodate all, it is up to the teacher(s) running the groups as to fees. As well you are free to make your own arrangements for private lessons or to play in online tournaments with your teacher. In joining BRIDGE FORUM you get discounts on forums offered by our expert affiliates. In addition to enhancing your bridge game, groups are a great place to meet other online players who are working on the same system as you, at the same level of play, and typically the same learning goals. Many ongoing partnerships have sprung from such groups. HAPPY BRIDGINGJ Copyright © 2003 BRIDGE FORUM INTERNATIONAL |
